The holiday spirit. I really enjoy how everybody gets together and wants to spend time. And they're giving. It's a very different time of year. It's a different attitude. It's the end of the year, and you're getting ready for the next year, so you're wrapping things up and are ready for new beginnings.

     My favorite things about December:
I treasure the long nights, and books read by candle light; the silence that snow brings, the love and laughter shared with friends and family during holiday visits... but what I love most is celebrating the lives of my two December babies.

Things I love about December in Crestone:
I love watching the wildlife return. Each day as I go out for my morning walk I pull out binoculars and see the buffalo, elk herds and deer return to their winter feeding grounds. Friends tell me that moose are here now, too.  At night I see the Milky Way and shooting stars and hear the coyotes practicing the winter howls. I love that we move to the longest night at winter Solstice and then again start feeling the slow return of light. We are part of that magic that so much of the world never sees.

That winter is new again and the feeling of cozying in, like a long deep breath of quiet.

Heading into December, I appreciate the darkness and the silence and Orion in the night sky, candles lit and fires crackling in the wood stove. If the warmer months are a kind of shuffling of the deck, people moving in and out of town, lots of visitors, December and the winter months are when our community turns in toward its core, when we celebrate the rooted ones who have chosen to stay here and settle in for a good long while.

What I like most about December is spending time with family at the holidays. Good food, good company and good times.

The things I like most about December would be: number one, my birthday; number two, my older sister's birthday. And I always look forward to the beginning of the winter solstice so we can start getting longer days. The snow, the mountains and the beautiful mountains during the snow.

I would say the vibration from the energy of the building to the winter solstice. It's like an electric feeling in the air. Also getting ready for seeing friends & family that have maybe been working super hard. Take a little time off for the holidays. So, the anticipation of the comfort and joy *and* the comfort and joy itself when you get into that. That's my favorite part of December.
