My grandmother told me that there was no crime in being poor, but you didn’t have to be dirty. I think about her when I make my bed in the morning and when I do my dishes.

My Grandma Honey had the wisdom to share wisdom in the ways I was able to understand. I had some real challenges growing up. Honey believed in me, no matter what, and to have that in your life is the best of all gifts!

My grandmother always used to say, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.” And growing up, I thought, “Hmmm..” but I’ve come to believe that’s good.

My great-grandmother taught me that by being fully yourself, you’re going to be healthy, and that by holding things in or repressing aspects of yourself, you can get sick. And she chain smoked her whole life, swore like a sailor, said exactly how she felt and she lived to be 96 and she fell asleep in her rocking chair and never woke up, and she never had any illness. And then my grandpa taught me that practice makes progress, rather than practice makes perfect, and so in order to get good at anything you have to practice.

My grandmother is currently 101 and when I went to see her on her 100th birthday, the last thing I remember her telling me was that, “Nobody should ever have to live this damn long!”

The best advice my grandmother told me was, “Chris, you’re not going to find any hot models. You don’t have any money. Forget about it!”

One grandfather’s advice was, “If you can’t find the time to do it right the first time, when are you going to find the time to do it again?” My other grandfather’s advice was, “Move out of the house as soon as you can!”

Grandpa always used to tell us, “When you take something off, don’t put it down - put it away. Then you never have to clean.” So, you take something off, put it away! You don’t have to touch it again.
